SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia's David Pocock will miss the British and Irish Lions tour after the ACT Brumbies confirmed on Sunday that the openside flanker would be sidelined for six months by injury.
Pocock, whose ability to turn over ball at the breakdown would have made him one of the first names on the Wallabies team sheet for three tests against the Lions in June and July, injured his left knee in a Super Rugby match on Saturday.
Scans confirmed the anterior cruciate ligament injury, which will require six months out of the game to recuperate, a Brumbies spokesman said on Sunday.
Michael Hooper of the New South Wales Waratahs and Queensland Reds youngster Liam Gill will be most likely to replace Pocock after Wallabies coach Robbie Deans said earlier this week that 110-cap flanker George Smith would not be considered.
