There's a growing list of General Assembly members who say they won't support the reappointment of Helen Dragas to the UVA Board of Visitors. McLean attorney Richard Marks notes State Senator Janet Howell of Reston has indicated her opposition to Dragas.
Howell is the senior Democrat on the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee.
Freshman Senator Barbara Favola (D-Arlington County) has also declared she won't support the current rector. Marks believes getting rid of Dragas would help Teresa Sullivan carry out her duties as President.
Dragas has been under fire from lawmakers of both parties because of her role in last June's ill-fated attempt to force Sullivan's resignation. Dragas was one of Democratic Governor Tim Kaine's 2008 appointees to the Board of Visitors, and GOP Governor Bob McDonnell reappointed her a few days after Sullivan was reinstated as President. Dragas (pictured center) spoke about Sullivan's status during a June 10th news conference.
