Goode Vs. Perriello: Still Too Close To Call

The race between Congressman Virgil Goode and Tom Perriello for the 5th District Congressional seat is still tight. The State Board of Elections is reporting the margin is currently within a 6 vote margin with Goode in the lead, and CNN is reporting that Goode is ahead by 440 votes. Provisional ballots are still coming in at this time, and there\'s been a case of a miscount in Lunenberg County that had to be corrected. Goode spoke early today about the emotional ups and downs of the close race through Tuesday night. Perriello spoke to a group of supporters and reporters early today about the closeness of the race. Perriello says he\'ll wait before saying anything further, but he believes the provisional ballots will work to his advantage. Perriello rolled up big margins in Albemarle and Charlottesville, while Goode prevailed in most of the counties closer to the North Carolina border. The electoral boards in the localities that comprise the 5th District must certify their results. State law calls for a mandatory recount when the separation in the vote total is less than one-half of one percent.
