Some local congressmen are making another push for a federal balanced budget amendment. Roanoke Republican Bob Goodlatte is the new chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which tackles constitutional questions. Goodlatte (pictured) says the way the federal government conducts itself highlights the need for a balanced budget.
Goodlatte favors requiring a President to submit a balanced budget to Congress. He also wants a requirement for a three-fifths majority to increase the federal debt limit. Local congressman Robert Hurt is co-sponsoring Goodlatte's legislation.
