Friday was the deadline for filing a motion for a new trial in the Huguely murder case, and as expected, the defense did just that. George Huguely was convicted in February of second-degree murder and grand larceny in the May 2010 beating death of Yeardley Love. The jury recommended a total sentence of 26 years in prison. The prosecution must respond by June 8th, and the defense will have to respond to the prosecution's filing by June 22nd. A motions hearing is scheduled for June 29th, and Huguely is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Ted Hogshire on August 30th. Huguely has already been in jail for two years.
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has formally accepted the Republican nomination for Governor but he probably won't know who his ticket-mates are until Saturday evening.
