Two environmental groups are circulating a three-minute video that promotes alternatives to the Route 29 Western Bypass. The Southern Environmental Law Center and the Piedmont Environmental Council have been fighting the bypass for decades. Morgan Butler of the Southern Environmental Law Center says the new video highlights what he calls better approaches to solving traffic problems on 29 North. One feature of the "Go 29" video is a three-dimensional grade-separated interchange where 29 meets Hydraulic Road. Representatives of the Kroger Corporation and other businesses persuaded City Council to reject a grade-separated interchange in 1995. (Pictured, VDOT concept of parts of the Western Bpyass)
