Indecency complaint filed against Katy Perry over concert

Katy Perry has been caught up in a bizarre new legal drama in India over a raunchy dance routine at a cricket ground.

Lawyer K. Jebakumar has filed an indecency complaint over what he claims was an "obscene" performance given by Perry and Australian cricketer Doug Bollinger at the launch of the Indian Premier League in April.

The law man alleges the pop star's actions as she danced onstage with the sportsman offended members of the public and distracted students preparing for exams.

Indian court officials will hear Jebakumar's case later this month, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper, and both Perry and Bollinger may have to defend their provocative performance in court at another date if the complaint is upheld.

It's not the first time a major U.S. star has upset Indian lawmakers with provocative actions - Richard Gere caused an uproar there in 2007 when he kissed 31-year-old Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty during an AIDS awareness rally.

Religious fundamentalists and Hindu nationalists accused the Pretty Woman star of ignoring sacred taboos and burned effigies of the actor in a series of demonstrations across the country.
