Harris Teeter At Barracks Road Has Brief Evacuation
There was a brief evacuation of a Charlottesville grocery store Sunday morning. City Fire Chief Charles Werner says firefighters were summoned to the Harris Teeter in the Barracks Road Shopping Center and found the odor of burning rubber and a light haze. Werner says his crews evacuated the building shortly before 10 a.m., and shut off its electricity and gas. He says a belt on an air handling unit (pictured) had been dislodged and it generated smoke through the store's ventilation system. Werner says the unit was isolated and the firefighters restored the power while they ventilated the building. There was no damage to the store and there were no injuries. The Charlottesville Fire Department provide the photo.
