Many residents of southern Albemarle don't like the possibility of a firing range in the Keene area. D. G. Van Clief and many of his neighbors say they support the County Police, but they want to put the range somewhere else. D.G. Van Clief and his family have been Albemarle residents for many generations.
The opponents contend a new facility would generate a lot of noise and disturb the wildlife in their area. They have circulated petitions to stop the firing range. Police officers have been using a private club, but they want a permanent facility they can call their own.
